“These images are from a book I found at a yard sale, A Handbook of Anatomy for Art Students (1896). It contains hundreds of photographs of naked models, but the genitals have been erased. In men, this disappearance is notable: no penis. In women, the absence of a vulva is implied, one imagines. 125 years later, I think it might be time to give these people back their lost sexes, if they want it. » MDST-J

aMAZEzine!, 1995-1999
aMAZEzine! is a Montréal-based bilingual fanzine cofounded by Marc-Lucas Ablasou and Marie-Douce St-Jacques, who met through programming student radio at Cégep du Vieux-Montréal (Montreal, Canada). The first three issues were dedicated to indie / experimental rock (Marie-Douce) and emo / post-hardcore (Marc-Lucas). The zines contained interviews, articles, reviews and art from local artists Éric Thériault (Swiz), Billy Mavreas, Carlos Santos (d. bilos), Fidèle Castrée (Geneviève Castrée / Elverum), Félix Morel and many more.
After issue #3 was released, Marc-Lucas left the publication, and Claude Bernier joined Marie-Douce for the final two issues. At this time, aMAZEzine!’s focus shifted to post-rock, experimental and avant-garde music. These last two issues were more expansive, including interdisciplinary subjects such as art, design and literature. They both contain limited split 7″ records.
